Access Violation

Postby ZensoftBelgiumHZ » Mon Jan 29, 2018 4:19 pm

We use VPE for mailing using the function VPEMAILDOC. One of our customers frequently gets an error and our software crashes.
It happens usually a while after he has sent an e-mail. The e-mail is sent from VPE, using an e-mail client of MS Office 2016.
Our software is developed with OpenEDGE (Progress).

This is the error we get:
"access violation when running event dispatcher execption code C.... ACCESS VIOLATION
fault adress : .... \prow32.dll"

In the stack, produced by the logger we find :
. C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Office16\mso20win32client.dll (mailclient)

Installed MS Office is MS-office2016, 32bit version.
Current version of VPE : Vpep3271.dll - version 7.1.0.8204

We use extended mapi in VPE and the e-mail is sent after showing the dialog-window of MS-outlook.
The software is installed on a remote server in the cloud.

Plz some help or advice.

Since it crashes in prow32.dll, you should contact the manufacturer of this DLL for technical support. Is it part of OpenEDGE, or where does it come from?

Some additional info.

Adobe Acrobat PRO DC - version 18.009.20050 is installed on this server.

VPE uses Acrobat for saving the printfile in .PDF-file.
Adobe Acrobat PRO appears on screen everytime VPE creates a PDF, and therefore also when VPE mails a document.

Maybe this generates the access violation errors?

VPE is not using Acrobat for creating or saving PDF files. Did you program something to print to PDF or what? I don't understand what you are doing.

A user can save the printed document as a PDF-file. This is done by VPE, using VpeWriteDOC(filename.PDF).
When we do this a screen of the installed Acrobat appears and automatically disappears, so i suppose VPE uses Acrobat.
Or isn't it normal that the installed Acrobat pops up when we save a printed document as .PDF (using VPE)?

It is absolutely not normal that Adobe pops up. We developed from the ground up our own PDF library, which generates PDF files without using Acrobat or any other 3rd party tools.

Yes, you're right. Adobe that pops up happens only in one program, and was in a tool developed by us to print additional manuals/info created with Acrobat.

But the problem of access violation errors keeps appearing. Could it be there's a conflict with dll's or components that Microsoft installs for Office 365?
This kind of errors (access vioaltion in prow32.dll) appears more and more the last years. And most of the time when a user mails a document, using VPE/outlook.

When we can't solve this we are obliged to develop our own mailtool to replace the use of MS-outlook.

P.S. whe use extended mapi to avoid security warnings of MS

We can not know the cause of the Access Violation, since we do not know what is going on. Only the developer of prow32.dll can analyse the cause. Who developed it, is it part of OpenEDGE?

It's part of Openedge. But it isn't always the same dll that gets error, also ms20win32client.dll
