Status bar progress display

On status bar at the bottom of the VPE preview there is an area where the progress of the report can be displayed. At the moment on my previews this area doesn't extend all the way to the edge of the preview. I want to display a longer progress message in this area and was wondering if there was any way of making this area larger.

The width of the statusbar's segments can not be changed.
