VPE4 problem with a special font

Postby Lanzendörfer » Wed Jun 04, 2008 4:53 pm

Hallo,

I have a problem with one of my customer changing from VPE 3.5 to
VPE 4.0.

He has an old Adobe-font called TnTFormBSK.
Compared to VPE3.5 in VPE 4.0 (R1-4) the words in a textline
are seperated not with 1 blank but with several blanks.

Changing to e.g. Arial with VPE4 this efect disappears.

At the moment I reinstalled VPE3.5 at this customer and all textlines are
oK.

Is there any VPE-parameter to avoid this with VPE4?

As far as I know, TnTFormBSK is a Type1 font and not a True-Type font. VPE does only handle True-Type fonts (and OpenType, if they contain True-Type fonts) correctly.

Because until now we had no problems with VPE and fonts even non-ttf-fonts under VPE35 we were not aware of the VPEdocumentation 'only true type fonts'.

So we have to find an answer to our customers question:
We can use it in Ms-Word and the old VPE-System. Why not with VPE4?
But this is our problem.

You would have had those problems since 2002 (v3.50), if you would have used the PDF export module (which was released then).

Why not with VPE4?

Versions prior to v4.0 used the Windows API to render fonts for all output devices, except the PDF Renderer. Therefore it did work for you.

Because VPE v4.0 now supports many different platforms, we needed to implement our own font renderer, in order to guarantee that the rendered documents will look exactly the same on each platform.

This new renderer does only support True-Type and OpenType fonts.
