Images not consistant in PDF

Postby jmunger11 » Mon May 19, 2008 3:24 pm

I am generating PDF files using VPE dll version 32.36. I use VpePicture with the PIC_IN_FILE flag set to insert .jpg files. This works most of the time and the images are written to the pdf fully. This is real nice when it works. Here is my problem. Occasionally, images will be chopped in length and the frame around the image is missing. This may be the same exact report that just worked with the same images and same code to generate it. I write one image per page always the same size with a page break prior to it. In the case where the image is chopped, the .jpg itself contains all of the data but it is just not written to the pdf. In addition, when I use preview to view the data, the image displays in its entirety.

Maybe your problem is related to using identical image file names, but those image files are changed on the disk between generating different VPE documents. VPE does not handle this, due to the built-in multi-level image cache.

Please see also this thread: http://idealsoftware.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=167

Please let me know, if this solves your problem.

BTW, you do not need to specify PIC_IN_FILE to export images to PDF. This flag is only to control whether images are stored inside native VPE document files.

(Note: with v4.0, the flag has been removed and a new property has been introduced.)

OK, seems that we have a problem solved. I use a unique naming technique for the images and now I cannot reproduce the problem. I am using the PIC_IN_FILE flag so that I can dispose of the images and send/ post the pdf outside of the relative location where it was generated. It was my understanding that this flag would be needed to embed the images into the pdf itself. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks again for your timely response and help. This is very much appreciated.

I ran without the flag and all is well in my world. Thanks again!

Please let me repeat that the flag itself has no influence on the PDF generation.
