PDF vs. VPE Document

Postby IDEAL Software Support » Tue Nov 23, 2004 3:07 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to convert a VPE document to a PDF file.. and noticed that
Ideal Software has offered a PDF Export Module, and they said that we
can "create a complete PDF file from a VPE document with only one
line of source code: VPE.WriteDoc("My Document.pdf")..." ..This
sounded so simple, but I couldn't accomplish this(I do have the
latest software update, and even trying to download the Trail
Version).. so I've wondered that any of you guys has any suggestions
or some sample, that would be a GREAT help..

Thanks a bunch,

Van,

you need the current Version of VPE (v3.50) in order to be able to export to PDF, and of course your software must *use* this version.

If you are using the ActiveX, it is necessary to insert the new Version of the ActiveX control into your project.

If you are using the DLL, load "vpe<x>3235.dll" instead of "vpe<x>32.dll" (where <x> is the letter of the edition: s, x, p, e or i).

If you are using the Delphi / CBuilder VCL, compile and install the new package.

Thanks for your response. And yes I am running on v3.50 and using DLL
and I do have "vpe3235.dll", NOT vpe32...but the problem I am having
is it created a .PDF FILE but couldn't open under Acrobat Reader and
I used our License() that come along with the VPE software.. as I've
just acknowledged from other Programmers that:

1) I must have a PDF License('PDF........').. to fully create a PDF
file...

2) If this is not a mis-understanding, is there a way that I can try
this first-- to make sure it work fine under our software environment
before we place an order for this PDF add-on feature?

Best Regards,

Van,

the PDF export feature also works in the trial version (with demo banners). If you run for example VPEDEMO.EXE that is installed with VPE, it will create demo PDF files.

You can also run the demo sources for C/C++, Visual Basic, etc. and you will notice that all these programs create PDF files using the trial version of VPE.

You can create yourself PDF files in the same way. If it doesn't work on your side, you must be doing something wrong. Unfortunately I have no other idea what might be the cause, since you seem to use the right version. You say you have vpe<x>3235.dll, but are you sure it is loaded into your application? As far as I know, you are using Alaska Xbase++, therefore the source codes which load the DLL must be changed in order to *load* vpe<x>3235.dll. I think this is the problem.
