VPECTRL36.OCX

Postby bjerge » Tue Aug 09, 2005 7:52 am

Hi,

I've downloaded the tria version of VPE Pro. Edition 3.6.

On my development machine my program works nicely, but when I move my program to another PC, register the VPECTRL36.OCX with regsvr32, I get the error "the class is not registered for the user".

What have I done wrong ?

We have never heard this error message before. Please post the *original* text of the error message and the error code, if some error code is shown.

Hi Thorsten,

the message (in danish) is *Klassen er ikke licenseret til brugeren.*

Yes, well, we don't speak danish. Is this message generated by regsvr32.exe? No error code given?

Maybe you have not enough permissions to register the ActiveX for the user?

I did write you the message in english ....

I'm local administrator and the ActiveX was registered successfully.

So the problem was that you had not enough permissions?

So you have administrator rights and can not register? It is really difficult to say what the cause is. Did you copy all DLL's from the deploy directory of VPE to Windows/System32?

Yes I have Administrator rights !
I CAN register the OCX, but I get an error when I run my test program at my "application" pc.

I guess it has someting to do with the OCX or DLL(s), since I can run my applicationt on my development pc, but not on an "application" pc.

From what I've read in your documentation, the only file that needs to be registred on the "application" pc is the OCX. Is this correct ???

The OCX is also the only file that I've copied to my "application" pc.

Do I need to install / copy more files ?

Yes, see the chapter "Redistributing VPE" in the help file named "Programmer's Manual". At least the VPE DLL is required. There are also written some important notes about the COM licensing mechanism.

With what programming language / tool are you working?

Thanks - I'll have a look at that !

Actually I'm using a programming language that you dont even know that you can "speek to" - COBOL ......

But you can proberly add this to your CV within a short time.

It seems that my problems are caused by the missing license key - is there a "demo license key" I can use for my testing ?

If no license key is provided, VPE is automatically running in demo mode. I really have no clue, what is going wrong with your COBOL environment, you should contact the tech support of your COBOL manufacturer.

The "funny" part about this is that is works nucely at my developmer pc, but not from the apllication pc.

I have found out that is seems that the ActiveX control is searching in the registry for the value

"HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\VpeCtrl36.ocx"

But its not to be found at the pc I registered the VpeCtrl.ocx at ??

As far as I understood you, the problem occurs when calling regsvr32.exe right? In this case something weird is going on on your machine, and as I said before, unfortunately we have no clue. This is the first time such a problem (with such an error message) is reported.
