error instantiating OCX

Postby smap » Tue Jul 17, 2007 3:11 pm

Hi - I've emailed support with this issue but in case anyone has any information prior to me hearing back from them it would be appreciated.

We implemented our software at a client yesterday on 10 XP Pro workstations. No problems except with 1 workstation. When accessing a screen using the VPE OCX, we receive an error:

Invalid class string
Error code: 0x800401f3

Aside from a locally installed runtime environment, the clients are all running our software from a network share mapped drive so there shouldn't be any kind of file corruption issue.

The language is Progress v9.1E.

To be honest: we have no idea what might be going wrong on that machine.

The only advice we can give is to google for that error message. It is
not generated by VPE, but by the Microsoft Windows operating system.

It seems to have been a permission issue with regards to the registry. Oddly the user we installed under was an administrator but the company is using a domain controller and perhaps had some "special" settings for this particular user. There were several things tried including manually adjusting permissions on some registry keys but in the end we believe uninstalling and reinstalling as the local Administrator solved the issue.
