Mailbutton disabled on Small BS windows 2008

Postby ZensoftBelgiumHZ » Thu Nov 12, 2009 4:14 pm

We have a windows server, with Small Business Server windows 2008 installed and Exchange. When the users log on the server, in the VPE-preview the e-mail button is disabled.
We thought it was because there was no emailclient installed. Installing Windows Mail didn't help. then we installed Thunderbird, but also without any result. I know that VPE only supports Simple Mapi, that's why we also tried to solve it with Thunderbird.

The VPE installed is v3.6 professional edition / development is done in Progress/OpenEdge10.

Please help.

Did you configure Thunderbird to be the default mail client in the system control panel | Internet Options?

If so, please check the following:

Registry: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Messaging Subsystem

Is the entry: "MAPI" with the value "1" present?

If not, this is the problem.

Else: is the file "mapi32.dll" in "\Windows\system32" present?

We had also problems on servers with Exchange (SBS2003) and Outlook 2003. The Outlook 2003 is installed because the same server is used as ASP-server and users want to send e-mails from our software. Sending e-mail using VPE then gives error 450.

This is what i found on Support of Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;813602

So using the same server for Exhange and also installing a e-mailclient on it, gives conflicts in the mapi-set. Therefore we prefer to use a dedicated server for exchange, and one for ASP/Outlook2003. Problem solved.
