Problem with demo banner

Postby alanguille » Fri Jul 11, 2008 2:18 pm

From time to time, the demo banner is shown in all vpe documents generated in our application.

This problem seems to occur randomly, and disappears after rebooting the pc.

This problem doesn't happen often.

Our end-users only have the preview, the ocx and the dll installed, in 3.60 Version (they will get the new version 4.0 next september)

Is this a known issue of 3.60 Version ?
Is there something that we can do to prevent it ?

In v3.50 and v3.60 there is code in VPE, which determines if it is executed on a server. If there is no server license installed, VPE will show demo banners. Please see the Programmer's Manual for details about how VPE determines a server environment.

Starting with VPE v4.0 R2, server licenses are only required for Solaris / Open Solaris and AIX. Therefore the demo banners will not appear on other platforms.

Thanks for your answer.

I had a look in the Programmer's Manual and we are not in server licensing mode, and we only have one process at a time (and only one application using VPE).

I'll try to make further investigations but if you have other ideas you're welcome

As I mentioned before, this problem doesn't occur often, so maybe our end-users are doing something special

Please note that every instance of an application, which is using the same license key (!), is counted. With v4.0 the problem is gone.

We can only have one instance of our application.
As the problem only occurs a few times per year and only for a very few users, I think we can wait until september, when they'll get the v4.0.

One last question: Are you using VPE v3.60 Release 4? If not, you should use it.

We are in version 3.60.0.4, I'm not sure but I think that's Release 4 (june 2005)
