Length name printer

Postby ZensoftBelgiumHZ » Thu Dec 01, 2005 11:13 am

We have a customer with two printers: "HP laserjet 4350 PCL6" and "HP laserjet 4350 PCL6 (copy 1)".
When he wants to change the default printer for a specific printjob to
"..(copy 1)", VPE keeps printing on the other one. In the .PRS
configurationfile VPE doesn't save the whole filename and keeps working
with the first name.

Is this an known issue/bug? Or is there an maximum for the length of
the devicename?

Can anyone help? Thx

Windows itself limits the maximum length for the device name to 31 characters. Device names which are longer can not be distinguished from each other.

But in your sample the first device name is much shorter than 31 characters, so this should work. What device name is exactly written to the PRS file?

Further, can you explain the exact procedure which is performed to setup the two printers?
