Windows 10 Support?

Postby Shaun_H » Thu Jun 18, 2015 3:36 pm

Will VPE support for Windows 10 be available shortly after it's release next month? I had tested VPE with Windows 10 Technical Preview earlier back in January and VPE was not supported.

Possible compatibility issues will be fixed soon after a new Windows versions has been officially released. We do not test against non-final releases of Windows.

Has there been any compatibility issues identified with Win-10?

I just ordered a new development machine to test Win-10, just checking to see if there is any known issues. VPE on Win-8 and below has been very stable. I still consider VPE to be the most valuable printing tool on the market. There is no way I would have the quality of documents I do without this great product and its seamless integration with my programming language (Xbase++).

Not a VPE issue; but, has anyone heard anything beyond the rumor level about Microsoft charging developers for the 'right' to run their software under Win-10?

Ver 7.0 Release 2 (Vpep3270.dll dated 23Oct2014) seems to be working well on Windows 10 so far.

Hi,

At least VPE 6.1 and VPE 7 (R2) are having a problem in the print preview when a bmp file is printed and application compatibility with Windows 10 is set by the manifest (see https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/librar ... 85%29.aspx for details).

All my applications are crashing with a GPF in the print preview in this case. If I remove the Windows 10 compatibility, the preview is showed. If I use VPE 4 instead of 6.1 or 7, the preview is also showed without crash. I have not tested VPE 3.x, and also not VPE 5 (never used it in production).

To make the VPE preview crash, you need:
- VPE 6 or VPE 7
- Windows 10 compatibility set by manifest
- print a bitmap (VpePicture)

One of these removed, and the preview will not crash anymore.

Crashes when printing are often related to buggy printer drivers. With what printer driver (manufacturer and version) do you experience the problems? Did you try another printer driver? You can also use for a example a driver that prints to PDF, just to cross-check if it is related to your specific driver.

We haven't tested with a Win 10 manifest, will do so. I will post updated information when available.

We used a Win 10 manifest for the calling application and confirm that this causes a crash of VPE on Windows 10.

We are currently working on a new release, which will include a fix.
All registered users will receive a notification e-mail, when the update is available. This will take a few weeks from now.

Hello Mr. Radde,

thank you very much for confirming this.

I would also be willing to test your fix, if needed. (and, of course, I would also subscribe a software maintenance contract for free updates).
