Duplex printing VPE

Postby bartsyryn » Tue Nov 27, 2012 8:49 pm

Hi,

We’re developing in VPE 5.
We have a question about duplex printing.
We make a report (one doc) in VPE that have several pages and sections. If the end-users has a duplex printer all the pages come double-sided printed out of the printer.
But we want that the printer takes a new page when there’s a new section. Is this possible in VPE to send a command to say that the printer needs to take a newpage and don’t print on the back of the last page. Here’s an example of what we want to accomplish :
Page 1 front : page 1 of section 1
Page 1 back : page 2 of section 1
Page 2 front : page 3 of section 1
Page 3 front : page 1 of section 2
Page 4 front : page 1 of section 3
Page 4 back : page 2 of section 3

Kind regards,
Bart Syryn

There is no special functionality provided by the Windows API to solve this problem - so does VPE neither.

If you know you are printing in duplex mode, you can re-regenrate the document and insert blank pages at desired positions. With the Professional Edition and higher this can be done very quickly, because you can insert (and delete) pages into the current document.

A better solution could be provided, if we enhance the API of VPE. We could implement a new property "boolean HardPageBreak", which would instruct VPE to check whether it is printing in duplex mode and to print pages marked with this flag always on the front of a sheet of paper. It would also be possible to store this flag within VPE file streams (i.e. VPE documents stored in a file), so our external file viewer "VPE View" would take it into account when printing a VPE document file. But you are the only customer asking for such a feature. Therefore we offer you to implement it within the scope of our paid support. If you are interested, please contact us by e-mail.
