Does VPE support the PDF/A standard?

Postby Kaschmi » Tue Dec 20, 2005 9:29 am

Hello IdealSoftware-Team :D ,

the ISO organization announced PDF/Archive (PDF/A) as standard for long term archived documents - such as business papers and tax relevant documents (ISO 19005-1:2005).
Our customers ask, if the PDF modul of VPE supports this format - or will so in future :?:

Thanks in advance!

Yours,
Karsten

From what we know, PDF/A is a subset of PDF 1.4, which is supported by VPE. But a PDF/A document may not be linearized, so it is the responsibility of the programmer (you) not to activate the linearization algorithm of VPE in order to create PDF documents which are PDF/A compliant. Another thing is that images may not be embedded with lossy compression, therefore you should not embedd JPEG images. These are just two points, which require that the user of VPE does things correctly, but we currently do not know the exact specification for PDF/A. We will address this at a later point in time, so at present I can not answer "yes" or "no" regarding VPE's capabilities.
