right, centered and decimal tabs?

Hello Mr. Radde,
why are the different tab alignments (right, center, decimal) not supported by the vpe rtf processor? They are fundamental for lots of documents. Is there a chance to implement them for the 4.0 version?

Back in 1997 - when the RTF parser was built - we had no plans to support right, centered and decimal tabs.

Last summer we had checked the source code to implement those tabs for VPE v4.0, but came to the conclusion that this would require a major rewrite of the RTF parser / renderer. For this reason right, centered and decimal tabs will not be supported in VPE v4.0.

But we do not share your opinion that those tabs are fundamental for many documents. In your scenarios this might be true, but we don't think this can be generalized.

We have currently no plans to do so. As explained above, this would require a major rewrite of the RTF parser / renderer. The main intention of VPE's RTF functionality is to format text with mixed attributes and fonts. It is not intended to import existing documents of all kinds. If you wish to format numbers in a table, you should use VPE's plain text objects with right text alignment. Each number should be placed and formatted within its own text object. This way each text object is like a cell in a spreadsheet.

I try to write:
Product Code, Description, Price

the description is in a RTF-File, with multiple lines
(the first line sometimes bold )

can I calculate the first line height in this rtf file,
und so print all three fields on the same base line
