DEMO VERSION

Postby bemsofpe » Thu Nov 22, 2007 1:21 pm

Hello,

One of our customers is having a strange problem with VPE3.50. All users connect to one citrix server: in our application we are using the OCX preview and this works ok for most users most of the time.

Sometimes however a user gets "DEMO VERSION" in the preview, while at the same time another user on the same server using the same program gets a correct preview. If the "DEMO VERSION" user logs out and in, the problem may disappear.

Since they are all using the same programs and OCX: where can we look for a solution for this weird problem?

You need a server license, please read the docs and the license agreement.

Thorsten,

This customer has been running our application (with VPEE3.50 activex) for more than 2 years without any "demo version" problem. It is only the last few days that this problem has occurred.

I have re-read the docs: should we have a server license for every citrix server or terminal server, even if the users are just using one session (as if they are running on a pc). I thought that this sort of setup was included in the free 10000 copies we may distribute.

I tried to duplicate the problem on our own terminal server, but even if I start 6 different progress processes that each open a preview in the active-x, i do not get a "demo version" message.

Kind regards,

Patrick

Yes, I remember now that the checking for server environments had been implemented with v3.60, so this can't be your problem. However, server licenses are required per server.

Since you are using v3.50, we have no idea why the demo banners do appear. Especially that your customer's system ran for 2 years without demo banners is really strange.

However, we do not maintain v3.50 - which was released in October 2002 - so I recommend you update to v4.0.
